Returning to his alma mater in 2015, Dr. Donald Beermann is a Professor and Chair of the Animal Science Department at Iowa State University. Beermann completed a Masters of Science and doctorate degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as joined the faculty at Cornell before becoming department chair at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was later appointed director within the UNL Office of Research, and also served as the interim director of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences before returning to ISU. During his time as chair, the Iowa State University Department of Animal Science initiated the construction of the $5M Robert T. Hamilton Poultry Teaching and Research Farm. In 2019, Beermann was recognized with the Iowa Poultry Association "Lifetime Membership" award for his service to the industry.
