Ken Koelkebeck

Ken Koelkebeck earned a bachelor’s degree in general agriculture (1976) and a master’s degree in Poultry Science (1980) from the University of Missouri, followed by a Ph.D. in Poultry Science from Texas A&M University in 1984. In 1987, he joined the University of Illinois as a Poultry Extension Specialist, where his work combined extension, research, and teaching. Until his retirement in 2024, his efforts focused on practical research in laying hen and broiler management, environmental systems, and nutrition, directly supporting advancements across the poultry and egg industries.

Now a University of Illinois Professor Emeritus, Dr. Koelkebeck remains actively engaged in industry leadership and education. He serves as layer management editor for the Journal of Applied Poultry Research and plays a key role in the Midwest Poultry Consortium, contributing as an education co-chair, moderator, and instructor in its Center of Excellence program. He also continues to support outreach and collaboration across the Illinois poultry sector.

A long-time advocate for science-based progress, Dr. Koelkebeck has contributed to national initiatives including the Egg Industry Issues Forum and the development of animal care guidelines. His recognition includes the Midwest Poultry Consortium Outstanding Service Award and designation as a Poultry Science Association Fellow.
