Recent outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) underscores the need for effective pathogen control in laying hen facilities. Dust particles can act as carriers for pathogens so laying hen facility inside air quality is important. Addressing these challenges requires cost-effective management strategies and innovative technologies to reduce dust and limit pathogen transmission.
Over the past decade, various dust control technologies have been developed and tested in commercial facilities, yielding mixed results. At the same time, egg farmers have implemented practical measures to mitigate dust and pathogens. Communication on the technical aspects of these technologies and management strategies while discussing the economic feasibility of these methods is important so next generation efforts can find feasible solutions for commercial implementation.
The Dust and Disease Virtual Forum serves as a platform to initiate critical dialogue and collaboration among university researchers, egg farmers, and industry—working together to enhance dust control and disease prevention for the long-term sustainability of egg production.
